The estate

Located in south-west Tuscany, the Fattoria le Pupille estate has become a benchmark name. Elisabetta Geppetti, nicknamed «The Lady of Morellino,» has for 20 years put all her passion and ambition into making the estate a standard-bearer among the great Italian wines. She is a pioneer in developing the vine stock of the estate, planting Sangiovese, typical grape of Tuscany, as well as international varietals.

The vineyard

This Poggio Valente 2020 from Fattoria Le Pupille is an IGT Toscana wine made from a 12-hectare vineyard facing south-west at an altitude of 280 metres. This hilly terroir is unique because of its sand, sandstone and clay soil. Located in the Tuscan village of Pereta, Poggio Valente has been owned by Fattoria Le Pupille since 1996.

Winemaking and ageing

Harvested during the second two weeks of September, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel vats. Maceration of 30-35 days. Ageing for 18 months in 500 litre and 600 litre casks (of which 50% were new).

Blend

Sangiovese (100%).

Tasting

Colour
The wine is shining, with a beautiful ruby red colour.

Nose
The nose is complex, mingling black cherry, spic and tobacco notes with touches of undergrowth.

Palate
This Tuscan wine is elegant and full-bodied thanks to its refined tannins which stretch out to the lingering finish, with delicious blackberry notes.
