    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 Frédéric Esmonin

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red hue.

    Nose
Initially discreet, the aromatic expression quickly opens up upon aeration to reveal a vibrant bouquet of black fruits.

    Palate
The palate reveals a texture that is both supple and juicy, enhanced by delicate touches of liquorice. This powerful and flavourful wine unfolds beautiful complexity as the tasting progresses.

    Food and wine pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with rich meat dishes in sauce, such as wild boar stew, beef fillet with morels, or coq au vin. It also enhances roast poultry with mushrooms, porcini risotto, as well as matured cheeses such as Époisses or Saint-Nectaire.

    Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment of the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024, it is recommended to serve it between 15 and 16°C, after decanting for 30 to 60 minutes. Already very approachable, this wine has excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed until around 2044.

    Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 12.5%.

The elegance and depth of a red wine from Gevrey-Chambertin

    The estate

Located in the heart of Burgundy in France, the family estate long sold its grapes to the region's most prestigious wine merchants. The estate's modern history truly began with its founding in 1988, when Frédéric Esmonin decided to bottle and sell his own wines. Today, at the helm of the estate alongside his parents, he cultivates around ten hectares of vines. Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, the estate stands out for its respectful approach to the soil and its commitment to producing authentic cuvées that faithfully reflect the richness of their native terroirs.

    The vineyard

The grapes come from nine historic plots located around the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, with vines planted between 1929 and 1989. Resting on brown limestone soils and marls rich in fossils, these old vines benefit from a favourable east and southeast exposure. The estate favours sustainable viticulture, free of herbicides, promoting microbial life through regular ploughing and the use of natural compost.

    The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by demanding climatic conditions that led to a significant drop in yields. Despite these challenges, a sunny end of season in September allowed the berries to reach ideal ripeness. Late harvesting, combined with meticulous sorting, produced grapes of exceptional quality, yielding concentrated and perfectly balanced juices.

    Winemaking and aging

Following an entirely manual harvest, the grapes are destemmed before undergoing a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting a few days. Pressing is carried out gently using a pneumatic press, followed by fermentation triggered by indigenous yeasts. The Gevrey-Chambertin Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 is aged for 14 to 17 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, to preserve the expression of the fruit. The wine is bottled without prior filtration.

    Grape variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
