An Intense and Delicate Great Wine from Tuscany
The Estate
A prominent Florentine family dedicated to producing Tuscan wines, the Frescobaldi have been established on this historic land for over 1,000 years. Their influence grew considerably during the period of the Republic of Florence, as the city's banking industry developed. The family notably contributed to major works of art of the era, such as the Pont Santa Trinita and the Basilique Santo Spirito. Located in the Montalcino area, southwest of the medieval town, the estate Frescobaldi-Tenuta Luce Della Vite crafts vintages that rank among the finest wines of Tuscany and the finest wines of Italy.
The Vineyard
Frescobaldi - Tenuta Luce della Vite spans 192 hectares, 55 of which are planted with vines. With an altitude ranging from 350 to 420 meters above sea level, the estate boasts one of the highest vineyards in Tuscany.
The pebble- and sediment-rich but low-organic soils, combined with excellent south-facing exposure, provide ideal conditions to produce outstanding Sangiovese wines, with slow grape ripening. In the lower part of the vineyard, on clay soils, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted.
The Wine
This 2022 vintage marks the 30th vintage of this exceptional cuvée.
The Vintage
The year began with a cold, dry winter, followed by a rather dry spring. From May, temperatures rose rapidly, promoting an early and ideal flowering at the end of May to early June. The hot, dry summer ensured good vegetative balance. Two rainy episodes in late July and mid-August provided relief to the vines and initiated the final ripening. Harvest began on August 28 to preserve acidity and aromatic freshness. The grapes, small but perfectly ripe and healthy, benefited in September from sunny days and cool nights, ideal for refining the maturity of the Sangiovese.
Winemaking and Ageing
12 days’ fermentation in cement vats. 22 days of skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation carried out in barriques. Aged 24 months in barriques (80% new, 20% second-fill).
