Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Cosecha 2022 from Hacienda Monasterio
Tasting
Appearance
The robe reveals a very intense purple-red colour, with beautiful depth and great brightness.
Nose
The nose opens on a pronounced minerality evoking chalk and stone, complemented by aromas of fresh red fruits such as redcurrant, wild strawberry and tart cherry. Subtle notes of mint, vanilla and roasted touches enrich this complex bouquet.
Palate
From the first sip, this red wine from Spain offers a silky texture and remarkable balance. The palate develops on vibrant tannins that bring structure and freshness, leading to a persistent finish where fruity and mineral flavours intertwine.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted red meats such as shoulder of lamb with Mediterranean herbs, poultry with wild mushrooms, or tomato-based slow-cooked dishes. It also perfectly accompanies a platter of Iberian charcuterie or aged cheeses such as Manchego.
Serving and ageing
The Cosecha 2022 can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar and can be savoured until around 2030.
The mineral elegance and freshness of a great Ribera del Duero wine
The estate
Founded in 1990, Hacienda Monasterio quickly established itself as an essential reference in Castilla y León. Under the visionary leadership of Peter Sisseck and his partner Carlos de la Fuente, the estate covers 167 hectares. Today co-owned by Peter Sisseck and Carlos del Río González-Gordon, the property stands out for its pioneering commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. By combining technical innovation with a deep respect for the terroir, the estate produces wines renowned for their balance, freshness and elegance.
The vineyard
Located within the prestigious Ribera del Duero appellation area, the 108-hectare vineyard benefits from an ideal exposure on a south-facing hillside. The vines thrive on a mosaic of soils strongly marked by a high concentration of limestone and chalk. The estate favours a high planting density to encourage competition between the vines, cultivating them according to the principles of organic farming, without any chemical products, in order to preserve biodiversity and the authentic expression of the terroir.
The vintage
The 2022 year was marked by particularly hot and dry weather conditions. This extreme climate generated water stress for the vines, naturally limiting yields and favouring the production of highly concentrated grapes.
Vinification and ageing
For this Cosecha 2022, the harvest is entirely manual. After rigorous sorting and complete destemming, the berries undergo a long thirty-day cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts. This Spanish wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels from the Allier, a quarter of which are new. Finally, clarification is carried out gently with fresh egg white.
Grape varieties
80% tinto fino, 18% cabernet sauvignon, 2% malbec
