    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Les Perrières" Tête de Cru 2023 by J.-A. Ferret

    Tasting

    Nose
Wonderfully delicate, the bouquet gains depth and intensity with aeration. It reveals a beautiful freshness carried by aromas of lemon, mint and verbena, subtly complemented by tertiary notes of smoke and hazelnut.

    Palate
Considered the most refined cuvée of the estate, it offers a palate of rare elegance and superb verticality. Minerality asserts itself from the very first sip, then giving way to a silky texture with delicate flavours of white apricot. The long and persistent finish stretches out on beautiful floral and chalky notes.

    Food and wine pairings
This great white wine will pair wonderfully with grilled or sauced shellfish, such as lobster, king prawns or spiny lobster. It will also enhance noble fish such as wild sea bass or turbot, as well as white meats and delicate poultry served with a light sauce of white wine and mushrooms.

    Serving and cellaring
To enjoy the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Les Perrières" Tête de Cru 2023 in optimal conditions, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 12 °C. Approachable from 2024, this vintage will reach its peak between 2026 and 2031, and can be cellared until around 2036.

The elegance and minerality of a great Pouilly-Fuissé crafted by J.-A. Ferret

    The estate
Founded in 1840 in the heart of the Mâconnais in Burgundy, the J.-A. Ferret estate is a historic and emblematic name. Spanning around 18 hectares, this vineyard was long led by visionary women, such as Jeanne and Colette Ferret. Acquired in 2008 by the famous Maison Louis Jadot, the estate retains its autonomy. Today, under the direction of Audrey Braccini and with the arrival in 2023 of technical manager Clément Robinet, the estate is celebrating its first organic certification, thus perpetuating the excellence of its great wines.

    The vineyard
This great Pouilly-Fuissé comes from an exceptional 1.15-hectare plot located south of the natural amphitheatre of Fuissé, on the "Les Perrières" Climat. From the "La Baudotte" lieu-dit, a monopole of the estate, this mid-slope vineyard overlooks the "Clos de Jeanne" with a steeper gradient and enjoys a beautiful south/south-east exposure. Planted between 1972 and 1974, the vines, now over 50 years old, thrive on a deep silty-clay soil formed from residual clays. While the upper part is heavily stony at the surface, the subsoil reveals limestone and marl-limestone layers ensuring excellent drainage. The vineyard is managed organically, with entirely manual harvests.

    Winemaking and aging
The estate's philosophy is based on a rigorous plot-by-plot approach. To craft this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "Les Perrières" Tête de Cru 2023, fermentation and the first stage of aging take place in oak barrels for 10 months, with 25 % new barrels and 75 % barrels of one to three wines. The wine then benefits from an additional 9 months of aging in stainless steel tanks on its lees, before bottling scheduled for early 2025.
