Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a lovely golden hue, enhanced by brilliant highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate floral notes reminiscent of linden blossom and white flowers. It then unfolds into aromas of yellow- and white-fleshed fruit, such as vineyard peach, underscored by a hint of lemon and subtle touches of exotic fruit.
Palate
On the palate, this white wine stands out for its freshness and vivacity. The balance is remarkable, offering flavours of citrus and exotic fruit that stretch into an elegant finish marked by a light minerality and a hint of orange zest.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with white meats, such as lemon roast chicken, or poultry served with a light cream sauce. It is also a perfect match for delicately prepared fish, grilled seafood and more adventurous dishes such as tuna tartare with aubergine.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Mâcon-Lugny "Saint-Pierre" 2023, it is best served at a temperature of between 12 and 14°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will retain its qualities until around 2026.
The freshness and elegance of a Mâcon-Lugny wine
The estate
Established in Corpeau since 1860, in the heart of Burgundy, the family has a long winemaking tradition. The modern estate came into being in 1989, when Jean-Charles Fagot began marketing his own cuvées. Now at the helm of the estate, Jean-Charles Fagot manages three to four hectares of vines in the Côte de Beaune. Alongside this, his work as a négociant-éleveur allows him to offer a diverse range. A proponent of sustainable viticulture, he vinifies and ages all of his wines himself, thus preserving a deeply artisanal approach.
The vineyard
The Mâcon-Lugny appellation lies in the southern part of the region, amid a landscape of rolling hills. The "Saint-Pierre" climat sits on Jurassic limestone plateaus. The soils, made up of fossil-rich Kimmeridgian marls, sandy clays and hard limestone, give the vines great vitality. This terroir enjoys a semi-continental climate with slight Mediterranean influences, characterised by mild winters and warm summers, offering ideal conditions for the grapes to reach optimal ripeness while retaining a lovely tension.
Winemaking and ageing
True to the house's artisanal philosophy, the Mâcon-Lugny "Saint-Pierre" 2023 is entirely vinified, aged and bottled by the producer himself. Although the precise details of this cuvée's ageing have not been disclosed, the estate generally favours traditional, natural methods, with hand harvesting and a measured use of oak vessels to preserve the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay (100%).
