Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Rully Village 2024 by Jean-Charles Fagot
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a pale to light gold hue, reflecting its time in barrel.
Nose
The nose opens with a fragrant bouquet of ripe white fruit such as pear and apple, enhanced by aromas of white flowers like acacia and honeysuckle. Hints of lemon intertwine with delicious notes of fresh butter and hazelnut from the barrel ageing.
Palate
The attack is ample and rich, giving way to a round, unctuous mid-palate. This generosity is perfectly balanced by a lively, crisp acidity that brings great energy. The long, persistent finish lingers on buttery nuances and subtle sweet spices.
Food and wine pairing
This French white wine pairs beautifully with oily fish such as salmon or tuna, as well as with shellfish. It will also elevate seafood or mushroom pasta dishes and chicken in a cream sauce, and makes an ideal partner for a platter of hard or soft cheeses, such as an aged Comté.
Serving and cellaring
This Rully Village 2024 is already a real pleasure to drink in its youth, yet it also has the structure to develop gracefully in the cellar until around 2031.
The balance and richness of a white wine from Rully
The estate
Although the family has been based in Corpeau since 1860, the wine estate was officially founded in 1920. Located in the heart of Burgundy, this estate of just a few hectares is now run by Jean-Charles Fagot. A former musician with an unconventional background, he took over the family estate in the mid-1990s. He also transformed the historic building into a renowned inn. Combining his work as a grower with a négociant business, he crafts authentic wines that reflect the full richness of the local terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the village of Rully, in the northern part of the Côte Chalonnaise. The south-east-facing plot lies on hillsides with clay-limestone soils, in places covered with lighter, sandier deposits. With an average age of around thirty years, the vines are carefully tended according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, in order to preserve the natural balance and biodiversity of the terroir.
Winemaking and ageing
Following a manual harvest, this Rully Village 2024 is vinified in the traditional way. Fermentation takes place under strict temperature control, using only the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grape skins. The wine then undergoes an extended twelve-month ageing period in French oak barrels in the estate's cellars, refining its structure.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
