    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru "Amoureuses" 2023 Joseph Drouhin

    Tasting

    Colour
Red in colour, it reveals a hue ranging from cherry to ruby, with moderate intensity, bright and limpid, typical of the finest expressions of its appellation.

    Nose
With great subtlety, the bouquet seduces with aromas of raspberry and kirsch. With aeration, it reveals fine complexity with notes of truffle and undergrowth, along with delicate peppery, minty and sometimes gamey touches, all while retaining absolute elegance.

    Palate
The tasting offers a silky, velvety texture, supported by remarkably fine tannins. This wine combines intensity, volume and lightness, carried by a vibrant freshness. The finish, delicate in nature, leaves an impression of supreme refinement.

    Food and wine pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted or sauced meats, such as poultry, lamb or veal, particularly a veal grenadin with morels. It also enhances feathered game such as partridge, as well as dishes subtly flavoured with aromatic herbs like thyme or rosemary, and soft-rind cheeses.

    Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine in large glasses, at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Approachable in its youth, it possesses remarkable aging potential and can be enjoyed until approximately 2048.

The elegance and complexity of a great red Burgundy

    The estate

Founded in 1880 in Beaune by Joseph Drouhin, the House of Joseph Drouhin is an essential institution in Burgundy. Now led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin as chairman of the executive board, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of approximately 100 hectares spread across nearly sixty appellations. A member of the prestigious Primum Familiae Vini association, the estate stands out for its constant pursuit of elegant perfection and its deep commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, ensuring the authentic expression of each terroir.

    The vineyard

Located on the Côte de Nuits, the terroir of Chambolle-Musigny is home to the legendary Premier Cru Les Amoureuses. The vines flourish on clay-limestone soils particularly rich in active limestone, lending unique geological complexity. The estate applies strict principles of biodynamic and organic farming, including horse ploughing and the use of natural compost. Planting density is high, reaching up to 12,500 vines per hectare, in order to limit yields and favour the exceptional quality of the grapes.

    The vintage

The year 2023 stands out as one of the warmest in the region's recent winemaking history. This generous climate favoured optimal, complete ripening of the berries, delivering homogeneous and high-quality yields. Weather conditions allowed for excellent phenolic maturity while preserving fine balance.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes are hand-harvested in small perforated crates. Vinification incorporates 20% to 50% whole clusters, with a maceration of two to three weeks in small open vats, punctuated by gentle punching down and pumping over. Fermentation relies on indigenous yeasts. After vertical pressing, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new, for 14 to 18 months, under rigorous monitoring to respect the identity of the terroir.
