Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a pale golden hue, characteristic of the great white wines of this appellation.
Nose
Elegant and intense, the nose reveals aromas of hawthorn, apricot, baked apple, and crushed stone. With aeration, it evolves toward subtle notes of blond tobacco, dried fruits, and rare spices.
Palate
The palate offers a silky texture and an ample structure, striking a fine balance between richness and precision. Fruity and earthy flavours linger through a remarkably persistent finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great white wine from France pairs wonderfully with grilled fish or fish served with melted butter, shellfish such as lobster or langoustine, and poultry in cream sauce. It also pairs very well with fine charcuterie and semi-hard cheeses.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" Marquis de Laguiche 2023 should be served at a temperature of 13°C. This wine can be enjoyed in its youth but will continue to develop in the cellar, ideally to be tasted until around 2038.
The Authentic Expression of a Premier Cru from Chassagne-Montrachet by Maison Joseph Drouhin
The Estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, Maison Joseph Drouhin is a historic figure of Burgundy. Now led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin as president, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of approximately 100 hectares stretching from Chablis to the Mâconnais. A pioneer in environmental practices, the estate has been fully certified organic since 2009 and applies the principles of biodynamics. Maison Joseph Drouhin is distinguished by its constant pursuit of the authentic expression of its terroirs and the preservation of its winemaking heritage.
The Vineyard
Located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, the Morgeot climat lies in the prestigious commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. The vines benefit from a gentle south-east exposure, ideal for sun exposure. The terroir is made up of complex soils blending marl and limestone, encouraging deep rooting and good resistance to heat. The family of the Marquis de Laguiche owns these historic lands, which Maison Drouhin has carefully cultivated since 1947.
The Vintage
The year 2023 stands out as one of the warmest and most generous in the region's recent history. This vintage benefited from exceptional sunshine, with many additional hours of light. Despite low rainfall early in the season, the vines remained in excellent health throughout the growing cycle. The harvest of white grapes in the Côte de Beaune began under the best auspices on 2 September 2023.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes destined for the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" Marquis de Laguiche 2023 are hand-harvested in perforated crates, then rigorously sorted. The juice is extracted through slow, gentle pneumatic pressing. After settling, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new. Aging continues in these same barrels for a period of 16 to 18 months.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
