    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Corton Grand Cru 2022 by Joseph Drouhin

    Tasting

    Colour
Deep red in colour, this wine displays a beautiful visual concentration.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals itself as complex, blending notes of black fruits such as blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant with floral touches of peony and violet. Over time, nuances of spice and candied fruit emerge.

    Palate
The palate offers a beautiful structure supported by silky tannins and spicy nuances. A velvety texture balances the whole, making this wine full-bodied and generous while retaining a pleasant freshness. The finish is long and lingering, echoing the candied fruit perceived on the nose.

    Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with roasted or grilled beef, as well as with slow-cooked dishes such as beef bourguignon. It also beautifully accompanies feathered or furred game, roasted poultry, dishes with wild mushrooms, and characterful soft or blue-veined cheeses.

    Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this Corton Grand Cru 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16°C. This wine is intended for cellaring and requires a minimum of five to eight years before opening, with the potential to evolve favourably until around 2052.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Red Wine from the Corton Appellation by Joseph Drouhin

    The Estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, the house of Joseph Drouhin is a historic figure of Burgundy, France. Now led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin at the helm, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of approximately 100 hectares spread across the region's most prestigious terroirs. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, the estate converted all of its land to organic farming as early as the 1990s, and later to biodynamics. A member of the highly selective Primum Familiae Vini association, the family upholds values of excellence and respect for terroir.

    The Vineyard
Located on the famous hill of the Côte de Beaune, the vineyard of the Corton appellation benefits from a south-southeast and south-southwest exposure, favouring optimal sunlight. The vines thrive on complex soils, composed of brown limestone, reddish stones and marls rich in potassium. All of the plots are cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles, promoting biodiversity and soil vitality.

    The Vintage
The year 2022 stood out for its particularly warm and sunny weather. Following a cool start to spring, temperatures quickly rose, leading to rapid flowering in late May. June was marked by abundant rainfall, allowing the vines to build up essential water reserves to withstand a dry summer. These conditions led to optimal ripening of the berries, which were harvested in dry and windy weather.

    Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for the Corton Grand Cru 2022 are hand-harvested in small perforated crates. Vinification incorporates 20 to 50% whole clusters, fermented in small open vats with indigenous yeasts. After careful vertical pressing, the wine is barrelled for an aging period of 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new, in order to preserve the authentic expression of the terroir.

    Grape Variety
    Pinot Noir (100%).
