    Tasting

    Colour
This wine from France reveals a magnificent red colour.

    Nose
Wonderfully refined, the bouquet reveals delicate aromas of cherry mingled with notes of dark chocolate and cocoa bean. Over time, it will evolve toward complex nuances of forest floor, truffle, fine leather, and cedarwood or cigar box.

The palate stands out for its elegance and breeding. Carried by refined tannins, the wine offers a silky, velvety texture. The remarkably long finish extends the pleasure, echoing the aromas perceived on the nose.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Great Burgundy Wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, the Maison Joseph Drouhin is a true institution in Burgundy. Originally a wine merchant house, it has grown into a prestigious estate now spanning around a hundred hectares, from Chablis to the Mâconnais. A pioneer in environmentally friendly practices, the estate has been certified organic since 2009 and applies the principles of biodynamics. Today, the fourth generation runs the estate, with Frédéric Drouhin as president, carrying on the excellence and authentic expression of Burgundy's terroirs.

    The Vineyard

The Grands-Echezeaux vineyard covers an appellation of nearly 9 hectares in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux. Located just above the famous Clos de Vougeot, at an altitude of around 250 metres, the vines benefit from a moderate slope facing due east. The particularly homogeneous terroir rests on chalky soils derived from Bajocian limestone dating back to the Jurassic period, offering ideal conditions for the vines to thrive.

    The Vintage

2023 ranks among the warmest years ever recorded in the region, even surpassing the temperatures of the previous year. This exceptionally mild growing season favoured optimal ripeness of sugars and phenolic compounds, resulting in a generous harvest and highly concentrated berries.

    Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for this Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 2023 are hand-harvested into perforated crates, followed by careful sorting. Vinification includes between 20% and 50% whole clusters, with a two-to-three-week maceration and fermentation punctuated by punching down and pumping over. Native yeasts are favoured. After vertical pressing, the wine is aged in French oak barrels (approximately 30% new oak) for 16 to 20 months.
