    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pommard Village 2022 Joseph Drouhin

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue, enhanced by highlights ranging from violet to garnet.

    Nose
Beautifully complex, the nose opens with aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry, blueberry and plum, mingled with notes of cherry stone. Delicate floral touches of peony and violet intertwine with mineral nuances, tobacco leaf and undergrowth.

    Palate
The palate is seductive with silky, perfectly integrated tannins, offering lovely freshness. It reveals pure flavours of red and dark fruits (cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant) balanced by a mineral backbone. Subtle notes of spice and leather appear mid-palate, leading to a persistent finish with earthy accents.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with traditional dishes such as beef bourguignon, duck confit or roasted meats. It also perfectly complements feathered game, umami-rich mushroom dishes, as well as matured cheeses such as Époisses or Comté.

    Service and Storage

The Pommard Village 2022 offers lovely accessibility in its youth, but also has ageing potential allowing it to evolve favourably until at least 2032, provided it is stored under good conditions.

    Other Characteristics

This wine has a moderate alcohol content, generally between 12.5 and 13.5%.

The Elegance and Authentic Expression of a Burgundy Wine

    The Estate

Founded in 1880 in Beaune by the young Joseph Drouhin, the Joseph Drouhin House is a true institution in Burgundy. Now led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin as president, the estate spans over 100 hectares across the region's most prestigious appellations. A pioneer of environmentally friendly viticulture, the estate stands out for its early commitment to organic and biodynamic practices. The family thus carries on a historic expertise, constantly seeking to express the authenticity and purity of each Burgundian terroir.

    The Vineyard

The Pommard appellation, located on the Côte de Beaune, is characterised by a mosaic of complex terroirs. The vines flourish under a temperate climate with continental tendencies, on predominantly clay-limestone soils. Depending on altitude, the soil varies between alluvial deposits, Oxfordian marls and iron oxide-rich areas that give the soil a reddish hue. The estate applies biodynamic methods, including horse ploughing and meticulous manual harvesting to preserve the integrity of the berries.

    The Vintage

2022 was marked by a particularly hot and dry summer, with a Saharan heat dome in July and August. However, welcome rains at the end of August helped revive grape ripening. These rainfalls led to an early harvest, yielding berries with lovely freshness and an ideal balance between ripeness and acidity.

    Winemaking and Aging

The Pommard Village 2022 is crafted through spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, without excessive intervention. Ageing then takes place in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, for a period ranging from 12 to 16 months. This method allows the woody nuances to be subtly integrated while preserving the identity of the terroir.
