    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the 2023 Vosne-Romanée Village by Joseph Drouhin

    Tasting Notes

    Appearance
The red hue reveals a beautiful brilliance accompanied by intense highlights.

    Nose
Wonderfully diverse aromatically, the nose exudes scents of wild cherry and well-ripened red and black fruits. It is further enriched with notes of sweet spices such as nutmeg, camphorated wood, along with subtle touches of fine leather and truffle.

    Palate
Full-bodied and robust, the palate offers a smooth texture free of any harshness. It reveals a perfect balance between bright acidity and fine tannins, extending into a long, powerful, and complex finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with roasted poultry served with a reduced jus, delicate meats such as beef fillet or veal shank, as well as dishes highlighting mushrooms and root vegetables. It also pairs very well with soft-ripened cheeses.

    Serving and Cellaring

To fully enjoy this 2023 Vosne-Romanée Village, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 16°C. This wine can be cellared and will continue to evolve favorably, reaching its optimal drinking window between 2031 and 2036, with an ageing potential extending to around 2038.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Red Wine from Vosne-Romanée

    The Estate

Founded in 1880 in Beaune, the House of Joseph Drouhin is a landmark figure in Burgundy. The estate now spans approximately 100 hectares of vines, stretching from Chablis to the Mâconnais. A pioneer in environmental matters, the estate is entirely farmed using organic and biodynamic practices. Management is currently in the hands of the fourth generation of the family, represented by Frédéric, Philippe, Véronique, and Laurent Drouhin, who passionately carry on the family legacy and the pursuit of an authentic expression of terroir.

    The Vineyard

The grapes come from the villages of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux. The vines thrive on limestone marl soils with excellent drainage and an ideal exposure. The vineyard is cultivated according to biodynamic principles, with high planting density, horse-drawn soil work, and the use of natural composts to encourage deep rooting and biodiversity.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 stands out as one of the hottest in the region's recent history, even surpassing the temperatures of 2022. Despite this intense heat, favorable weather conditions and good water availability resulted in steady, generous yields, ensuring optimal ripeness of the berries.

    Winemaking and Ageing

The production of the 2023 Vosne-Romanée Village is tailored to the specific characteristics of the plot, following a minimal-intervention approach. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged in oak barrels made from wood air-dried for three years to refine the tannins, with extended ageing on the lees to enhance aromatic complexity.
