    Tasting

    Color
The pale gold color is underpinned by subtle green highlights.

    Nose
Opening on intense minerality, the nose reveals delicious aromas of yellow fruits and citrus.

    Palate
A lively, mineral attack gives way to a palate combining salinity and balance. A beautiful fruity framework with notes of pear and yellow peach extends to a persistent, aromatic finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This white Loire wine pairs perfectly with salt-crusted sea bass, grilled sole, curry and shrimp risotto, pan-seared langoustines, or cheeses such as Crottin de Chavignol or Vieux Comté.

    The estate

Since 1513, the Joseph Mellot family estate has been an essential reference for Loire wines. Recognized beyond borders, the wines bearing the Joseph Mellot label, produced with integrity and respect for the environment, authentically express the diversity and richness of the terroirs of Sancerre.

Following the death of her husband, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has been upholding the quality and tradition of this estate since 2005. Joseph Mellot is the only estate to have parcels in every appellation of the Central Loire. This uniqueness is the strength of the estate, whose vineyard covers approximately 105 hectares.

From a selection of the best terroirs and a rigorous winemaking process, the wines of the Joseph Mellot estate are recognized for their elegance, precision, and the unique expression of each cru that makes up its vineyard.

    The vineyard

La Châtellenie de Joseph Mellot is a vin de Sancerre from an 18-hectare vineyard. The vines, averaging 25 years of age, are planted on clayey soils predominantly composed of flint.

    The wine

La Châtellenie, in the Middle Ages, was the smallest administrative unit. It designated the territory over which the lord of the castle exercised his rights. At its center stood the castle, which was the administrative headquarters of the châtellenie.

    The vintage

A contrasting winter was followed by a mild, humid spring. The relatively temperate summer gave way to a particularly wet early autumn.

    Winemaking and aging

Machine-harvested, the grapes intended for the production of of vin de Sancerre blanc are subject to direct pressing. A cold settling precedes fermentation in a temperature-controlled stainless steel tank, as does the aging.

    Grape variety

    Sauvignon Blanc (100%).
