    The estate

The Joseph Mellot House was founded in 1969, when Joseph gave his name to the family estate, and today cultivates vines in the Centre-Loire. Since 2005, the family estate has been managed by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot, supported by her sons Armand and Adrien, and is present in all the Centre-Loire AOCs. Joseph Mellot embodies a know-how passed down since 1513.

    The vineyard

The La Grande Châtelaine cuvée comes from a 2.4-hectare vineyard located on the clay-limestone Caillottes terroir characteristic of the Sancerre appellation. The vines benefit from mechanical soil tillage and are mechanically harvested in early September.

    The vintage

The winter of 2022 was characterized by mildness, punctuated by a few frosts. The early and warm spring gave way to a dry and hot summer. Autumn, however, proved to be warm and rainy.

    Winemaking and aging

Following direct pressing in a pneumatic press with juice selection, La Grande Châtelaine 2022 undergoes cold settling. Fermentation takes place in fine-grained oak barrels from the Bertranges and Saint-Palais forests. Aging lasts for 11 months in barrels with regular lees stirring, followed by at least 8 months in vats.

    Grape variety

This white wine from the Loire is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
