An exceptional Pouilly-Fumé from the great flinty soils of Saint-Andelain

    The estate

Founded in 1513 with Pierre-Étienne Mellot, the Joseph Mellot House embodies more than five centuries of winemaking excellence in Sancerre. Led since 2005 by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot, this family-owned estate farms 100 hectares across the eight AOC of the Centre-Loire. As an estate owner vinifying all the region’s appellations, Joseph Mellot combines sustainable viticulture with an international presence in more than forty countries.

    The vineyard

This Pouilly-Fumé comes from a 1.2-hectare vineyard planted on red flinty clays, the emblematic terroir of Saint-Andelain. The 35-year-old vines are farmed sustainably, with mechanical soil work, allowing for a pure and intense expression of the terroir.

    The vintage

The year 2023 began with a contrasting winter, followed by a mild, wet spring. Summer proved temperate before a very rainy autumn. Mechanical harvesting took place in early October.

    Winemaking and aging

After direct pressing in a pneumatic press with juice selection, La Grande Cuvée des Edvins 2023 underwent cold settling. Fermentation took place in fine-grain oak barrels from the Bertranges and Saint-Palais forests. Aging continued for 11 months in barrels with regular lees stirring, then for a minimum of 4 months in tank.

    Grape variety

This white wine from Loire is a sauvignon blanc.
