    Decanter

Highly charged on the nose and palate, this is rich and potent with fragranced, liqueur-like fruit underpinned by fine, chalky tannins and lots of salinity. Succulent acidity keeps things lively, especially necessary given the quite tight structure and the ripeness of the fruit, though there is freshness throughout. A big wine, with big shoulders that needs a few more years to come around.

    James Suckling

A spiced character here with notes of plums and currants, dark licorice, hazelnuts and wet stones. Medium-bodied, toned and crunchy on the palate, with firm tannins and ripe succulence in the middle. Velvety and lingering. Try from 2025.

Deeply colored, the wine packs a punch with all of its fruit and toasty oak, which is clearly present on the nose and palate. The fruit is there. The tannins are ripe, soft and polished, but this will need time to come together before the oak becomes fully integrated. Drink from 2026–2042.

    Falstaff

    Falstaff

Dark ruby, purple reflections, discreet ochre brightening on the rim. Fine bouquet of ripe wild berries, nuances of cherries, subtle wood tones, spices in the background; complex aromatics. Juicy, elegant and complex palate, sweet cherries and ripe plums. Integrated, supporting tannins, mineral-salty finish, has length and ageing potential. A touch of toasted caramel in the aftertaste. It is always among the best that the appellation has to offer.

As with the classic wine from this estate, the 2020 Château La Fleur De Boüard Le Plus has a gorgeous sense of elegance, yet it brings substantially more density, depth, and breadth in its aromatics as well as on the palate. Ripe currants, black cherry liqueur, spicy oak, white chocolate, graphite, and camphor are just some of its nuances, and it's full-bodied and rich, with a deep, layered, seamless mouthfeel and velvety tannins that emerge on the finish. The team of Hubert de Boüard has produced an incredible wine – yet again – and you could put this up with some of the finest Pomerols in the vintage and it would do just fine. It's going to evolve gracefully over the coming two decades. If there's a finer Lalande-de-Pomerol out there, I don't know of it.

Kunz barrel sample 2021: a concentrated, dense, velvety, creamy, finely opulent bouquet—strawberry jam, plums, chocolate cream, dark pralines, tobacco, hazelnut cream, currants. A tightly woven, velvety, powerful palate with intense dark fruit, plenty of fine tannins, a finely rich, muscular structure, varied, dense aromatics, and a very long, powerful finish with many lingering flavors.

Concentrated, dense, velvety, creamy, finely opulent bouquet: strawberry jam, plum, chocolate cream, dark pralines, tobacco, hazelnut cream, currants. Tightly knit, velvety, powerful palate with robust dark fruit, plenty of fine tannins, a finely generous, muscular structure, diverse, dense aromatics, and a very long, powerful finish with abundant echoing flavors. 19/20 2027 - 2048

    Le Figaro Vin

A fresh, vibrant, intriguing bouquet of flower petals. With a generous body, the wine nonetheless retains lovely freshness on the palate. A juicy, enticing finish, then gourmand and long.

The nose offers concentration, power (yet balanced and controlled), depth and intensity. It reveals notes of vibrant wild blackcurrant, juicy small black berries and, more subtly, wild strawberry, combined with touches of fresh/fleshy blueberry, hints of Sichuan pepper, cornflower, liquorice, a discreet hint of balsamic and a subtle touch of spice. The palate is fruity and delivers richness (with elegance), concentration, a certain creaminess as well as tension, fine linearity, a discreetly tight grain, lovely roundness and suavity. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackcurrant, boysenberry and, more slightly, strawberry, combined with touches of juicy cherry as well as a hint of juicy/pulpy blue plum, tonka bean, liquorice, cardamom, tea, a discreet hint of sweet spices, coffee and toasted notes. An imperceptible saline touch on the finish. The tannins are fine and offer straightness along with a touch of firmness. Good length.
