Characteristics and tasting advice for the 30-Year-Old 1st Fill Sherry Puncheon Gordon & MacPhail 1993 from Linkwood
Tasting
Appearance
This 30-year-old single malt displays a deep amber hue, characteristic of whiskies matured in sherry casks.
Nose
The nose reveals rich, freshly grated orange peel, mingled with hazelnuts and cinnamon. Notes of raisins and vanilla fudge complete this generous bouquet, while toasted oak brings an elegant woody dimension.
Palate
On the palate, syrup-poached fruits take the lead alongside brown-sugar caramel and apples. Raspberry compote stands out with gentle hints of anise. The balanced structure and medium body lead into a moderately full finish, marked by a lingering Morello cherry note.
A 30-year-old Speyside single malt whisky with a fruity, full-bodied character
Linkwood, a historic Speyside distillery
Founded in 1821 by Peter Brown in Elgin, in the heart of Speyside, Linkwood is an iconic Scottish whisky distillery. Production began in 1825, followed by a rebuild led by his son William in 1872. In 1933, it joined Scottish Malt Distillers, now Diageo. Linkwood stands out for its use of water from the Millbuies spring and its extended fermentation methods, which encourage complex aromas. With a capacity of 5.6 million liters, it produces mainly for blending, with only 2% of its output released as single malt, making its limited editions highly sought-after treasures.
The structure and expression of a whisky signed Linkwood
Distilled in 1993 at the Linkwood distillery, located in the heart of Speyside, this single malt matured for three decades in a single first-fill sherry puncheon. This 1993 vintage was bottled on April 10, 2024 by Gordon & MacPhail as part of their prestigious Connoisseurs Choice range. The choice of a first-fill sherry puncheon cask gives this Scotch whisky its generous aromatic profile, dominated by candied fruits, festive spices, and cherry notes. Presented in a wooden case, this 30-year-old single cask embodies the excellence of independent bottling and Gordon & MacPhail’s expertise in selecting and maturing exceptional whiskies.
