    James Suckling

The aromas of hot stones in the vineyard really highlight dried apples and citrus, with flint and straw, leading to a full body with a tight palate and a reserved finish. It needs time to open and show its greatness. Give it three to four years to open.

    William Kelley

The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has turned out well, mingling aromas of pear and white flowers with hints of almond and beeswax. Full-bodied, layered and textural, it's rich and fleshy, with lively balancing acids.

    The estate

Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, the Louis Latour House continues a family heritage that began in 1731 in Burgundy cooperage. Under the direction of Louis-Fabrice Latour since 1999, this independent estate owns the largest collection of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or, particularly on Corton Grèves and Bressandes. True to the Burgundian terroir, it has extended its influence to Chablis and Beaujolais, preserving its traditional expertise and historic cooperage.

    The vineyard

The Bâtard-Montrachet flourishes on an 11.86-hectare vineyard located between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. This grand cru benefits from an eastern exposure on slopes where gravelly soil rests on a clay base. The vines, averaging 40 years old, are rooted in this exceptional terroir renowned for the remarkable expression of Chardonnay.

    Winemaking and aging

Hand harvesting precedes complete vinification in oak barrels, where both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place. Aging lasts for 8 to 12 months in 100% new barrels, crafted by the Louis Latour cooperage from medium-toast French oak.

    Grape variety

    Chardonnay (100%).
