Characteristics and tasting advice for Beaune 1er Cru "Perrières" 2018 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Nose
The bouquet combines notes of licorice, blackberry, and cherry.
Palate
Broad and generous, the palate reveals a lovely fruit-driven framework, supported by delicate tannins on the finish.
Food and wine pairing
This Beaune 1er Cru "Perrières" pairs perfectly with boeuf bourguignon, duck breast, or woodcock. It also marries very well with soft cheeses such as Camembert.
A lively, beautifully complex Beaune Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1797, the Louis Latour estate is the largest Grand Cru estate in the Côte d'Or in Burgundy, with emblematic plots in Aloxe-Corton, notably Corton-Charlemagne. This independent, family-owned house for over two centuries stands out for its integrated cooperage, a legacy dating back to the 18th century.
The vineyard
The "Perrières" climat is located in the northern part of the Beaune appellation, on a 1.32-hectare east-facing slope. This terroir is characterized by shallow, very poor clay-limestone soils set on a steep incline near former limestone quarry faces.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking is carried out traditionally in open vats with complete malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, with 35% new oak and medium toast, allowing the wine to develop its structure and aromatic complexity.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir.
