The estate
Officially founded in 1797, Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy. Still independent and family-owned, the estate is now run by Florent Latour. The domain spans 48 hectares, including the largest area of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or. This world-renowned brand stands out for its commitment to sustainable viticulture and for owning its own cooperage, a unique expertise in the region. The excellence of its terroirs and its technical mastery make it an essential benchmark.
The vineyard
Located in the prestigious Côte de Nuits, the "Les Charmes" Climat is the largest and one of the most renowned in the village of Chambolle-Musigny. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, thrive at nearly 300 metres of altitude on a south-east facing slope. The terroir lies on shallow soil made up of alluvium and pebbles, overlying a subsoil of fractured limestone low in clay. This vineyard is cultivated using sustainable methods, free from chemicals, favouring natural compost and horse-drawn ploughing to preserve the ecosystem. The average yield is 35 hl/ha.
The vintage
The 2013 vintage stands out for its favourable climatic conditions, which allowed for wines of exceptional balance. This vintage offers wonderful energy, a fine and lively acidity, as well as great aromatic complexity, promising excellent ageing potential.
Vinification and ageing
After rigorous manual harvesting, the vinification of Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2013 is carried out traditionally in open vats, with malolactic fermentation completed at 100%. The wine then benefits from 10 to 12 months of ageing in medium-toasted French oak barrels, 40% of which are new. These barrels are meticulously crafted by the estate's own cooperage, perfectly enhancing the expression of the terroir.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
