    Decanter

The Vigne au Saint bottling from Louis Latour opens in the glass with a bouquet of cassis, dark plum, mossy soil and a framing of toasty oak. The wine is rich, hearty and full-bodied, with lots of mid-palate volume and a firm, slightly rustic structural chassis that screams Aloxe-Corton.

This is really classy with beautiful tannins and pretty ripe fruit. Linear and fine. Full-bodied, gorgeous tannins and a breathtaking finish. Wow. Drink in 2022.

The 2016 Corton Clos de la Vigne Au Saint Grand Cru offers lively red cherry, cranberry and pomegranate aromas on the nose, with touches of gravel and tobacco emerging with aeration—quite pretty and vivacious. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins, a keen thread of acidity, structured and grippy, with more body on the finish than some of its peers. There may be some nascent toughness to contend with, but it should soften with time. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

An elegant and complex red Grand Cru from Burgundy

    The estate

Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Beaune, the Louis Latour estate remains an independent family-owned property run by the eleventh generation. Based in Burgundy, it is the largest estate of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or, with prestigious plots such as Corton-Charlemagne and Chambertin. A pioneer in adopting modern techniques while preserving traditional methods, Louis Latour stands out for its exceptional family continuity over more than two centuries.

    The vineyard

Clos de la Vigne au Saint enjoys a privileged location on the Corton hillside, with full southern exposure on outcrops of mother rock. The soils, rich in red marl and limestone, confer the wine’s Burgundian typicity. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, are managed for a controlled yield of 35 hectoliters per hectare and harvested by hand to preserve grape quality.

    Winemaking and aging

Traditional vinification in open vats with complete malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, with 35% new oak of medium toast, allowing harmonious oak integration and preservation of the terroir expression.

    Grape variety

This Grand Cru is made exclusively from Pinot Noir.
