Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pommard 1er Cru "Epenots" 2024 by Louis Latour

    Tasting

    Color
The color reveals a deep ruby hue.

    Nose
Powerful and expressive, the aromatic bouquet reveals notes of blackcurrant intertwined with hints of undergrowth and licorice.

    Palate
The palate stands out for its generosity and freshness. The well-integrated acidity is balanced by discreet, ripe tannins, offering a firm structure that promises to age beautifully.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with rich, sauce-based meat dishes such as beef bourguignon or duck confit. It will also elevate flavorful cheeses such as Époisses or Pont-l'Évêque.

    Service and Storage

The Pommard 1er Cru "Epenots" 2024 reveals all its aromas when served between 15 and 17°C. With a solid structure, it can be enjoyed in its youth but will continue to develop in the cellar, drinking well until around 2034.

The Elegance and Structure of a Premier Cru from Pommard by Louis Latour

    The Estate

Officially founded in 1797 in Beaune, the Maison Louis Latour is an essential institution in Burgundy, France. This historic estate spans 48 hectares, 27 of which are classified as Grand Cru, making it the largest such property in the Côte-d'Or. Now led by Florent Latour, the company, still owned by its founding family, carries on a centuries-old expertise while committing to sustainable viticulture. As the only Burgundian producer to own its own cooperage, the house combines tradition with masterful aging to craft exceptional wines.

    The Vineyard

Located between Beaune and Volnay, the "Epenots" climat is a prestigious terroir within the Pommard appellation. The vines, averaging around thirty years of age, thrive on subsoils composed of clay and limestone. Cultivated with moderate yields, this vineyard benefits from entirely manual harvesting to select the best bunches at optimal ripeness.

    Winemaking and Aging

The Pommard 1er Cru "Epenots" 2024 is traditionally fermented in open vats, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 10 to 12 months in medium-toast French oak barrels, crafted by the house's own cooperage. This aging uses 35% new barrels and 65% barrels that have already held one or more previous wines, in order to preserve the balance and fruit expression.
