    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Lucien Crochet's Sancerre 2024

    Tasting

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense mineral notes of chalk and wet stone. It then reveals delicate touches of white-fleshed fruit and flowers, subtly rounded out by brioche and yeasty nuances from its ageing.

    Palate
The attack reveals a sharp, incisive acidity typical of its youth. The palate, still tightly structured, stands out for its very present smoky minerality. With a little patience, the texture will gain in roundness and complexity.

    Food and wine pairings

This white wine pairs perfectly with grilled or foil-baked white fish, seafood platters, and ceviche. It is also a wonderful match for roast poultry, veal dishes in a light sauce, or fresh goat's cheeses, such as the famous Crottin de Chavignol.

    Serving and cellaring

To allow this Sancerre 2024 time to open up and reveal its full harmony, it is advisable to wait one to two years before enjoying it. It can be appreciated until around 2029.

The pure, mineral expression of a Sancerre white wine

    The estate

Located in Bué, at the heart of the Loire region, the Domaine Lucien Crochet was founded in the early 1950s following the merger of the André Crochet and Lucien Picard estates. The latter was a pioneer of estate bottling. Historically developed by Lucien and then by his son Gilles, who instilled a philosophy of precision and rigour, the family estate is now run by Laurence Crochet and her son Clément. They continue to uphold the estate's identity, renowned for wines that faithfully reflect the richness of Sancerre's limestone terroirs.

    The vineyard

The 35-hectare vineyard extends mainly across the communes of Bué, Sancerre, Crézancy and Vinon. The vines, planted at altitudes ranging from 240 to 280 metres, benefit from east, south and west exposures. They thrive on clay-limestone soils resting on Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian subsoils. These specific terroirs, composed of griottes, caillottes and white marls, are distinguished by a very low presence of flint, favouring a unique mineral and chalky expression.

    Winemaking and ageing

The grapes intended for this 2024 white Sancerre are vinified without any use of wood. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with temperatures maintained between 14 and 18°C to preserve aromatic freshness. The wine then undergoes a long ageing period on fine lees. A late racking is carried out in spring, followed by bottling that does not take place before July, or even as late as September, the year after the harvest.
