    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Champ de Cour 2022 Maison le Nid

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals an intense red hue, enhanced by remarkable violet highlights.

    Nose
The nose opens on a spicy bouquet, revealing peppery and green pepper notes, harmoniously complemented by hints of licorice.

    Palate
The palate stands out for its warmth and density. It offers a spicy texture supported by rich, savoury tannins, perfectly integrated. Touches of licorice accompany a finish of impressive length.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with duck breast served with fruit or orange, as well as braised beef dishes. It also enhances game-based dishes (wild boar, venison, pheasant), traditional Lyonnaise cuisine, or vegetable-based preparations featuring eggplant, mushrooms and truffles. As for cheese, it ideally accompanies pressed, cooked, aged cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.

    Serving and storage

Boasting excellent aging potential, this Champ de Cour 2022 can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2032, allowing its structure to evolve and reveal its full complexity.

    Other characteristics

This wine is characterized by a full-bodied, bold and profoundly mineral profile.

The mineral and structured expression of a Moulin-à-Vent wine

    The estate

Founded in 2012 by the Lardet family, Maison le Nid is a family-owned estate located at the heart of Beaujolais. The estate, whose name symbolizes unity and attachment to the land, spans approximately six to eight hectares. Today, Stéphane Lardet oversees the winemaking and development of the property. Guided by the principles of sustainable farming, the family favors meticulous manual work and a plot-by-plot approach to express the full authenticity and richness of its terroirs.

    The vineyard

Located within the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, the Champ de Cour plot extends over a gentle slope facing south-southeast, at the foot of the hillside. The vineyard rises to between 230 and 280 meters in altitude, benefiting from optimal sun exposure and northwesterly winds that help dry and concentrate the grapes. The vines thrive on deep soils composed of decomposed pink granite, sandstone, white clay and pebbles, all remarkably enriched with manganese, giving the wine its unique structure.

    The vintage

The year began with a cold, dry January, followed by a mild start to spring and then a cool, wet April that delayed bud break. May, warm and sunny, encouraged early flowering. Summer stood out for its hot, dry conditions, particularly in August when temperatures exceeded 40 degrees. Saving rains in mid-August helped relieve the vines before an early harvest that began on August 24th, yielding concentrated berries rich in sugar.

    Winemaking and aging

The 2022 Champ de Cour harvest was carried out by hand in small crates, followed by rigorous sorting. Vinification takes place in a single temperature-controlled concrete vat, retaining between 33% and 50% whole clusters. The wine is then aged for approximately sixteen months, mainly in used oak demi-muids with a small proportion of new barrels. The wine then rests for an additional six months in concrete vat before bottling, with light filtration and no fining.
