    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the GOC Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese*** 2024 from Markus Molitor

    Tasting

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals intense, deep scents of floral honey, harmoniously complemented by indulgent notes of dried papaya and slices of candied orange.

    Palate
On the palate, this wine proves deliciously luscious, offering generous substance with a medium to full body. The finish, both compact and vibrant, is enhanced by a luminous acidity and a remarkable textural complexity.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with pan-seared foie gras or foie gras terrine, as well as with blue-veined cheeses such as bleu. It will also elevate desserts featuring yellow or exotic fruits, along with the spicy, boldly seasoned dishes of Asian cuisine.

    Service and cellaring
It is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature of 8°C in order to fully appreciate its freshness and aromatic balance.

The elegance of a great Riesling from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer by Markus Molitor

    The estate
Established in its current form in 1984, the estate is today run by its owner, Markus Molitor. Located in the renowned wine region of Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, this family estate stretches over approximately 120 hectares of vines. The winemaker has made his mark by focusing on exceptional hillside terroirs and by restoring the noble reputation of local wines. The estate stands out for its highly precise plot-by-plot approach, producing cuvées that faithfully reflect the richness and diversity of their slate soils.

    The vineyard
The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr terroir extends over 21 hectares facing south-southwest. The vines grow on a moderately deep, very stony soil composed of eroded clay schist. This exceptional site is home to plots preserved from land consolidation, where very old ungrafted Riesling vines flourish.

    Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested at the end of October and undergo an extremely rigorous manual sorting. The perfectly ripe berries are gently crushed before undergoing a short skin maceration. The must then ferments slowly and spontaneously at low temperature. Finally, this German wine benefits from extended lees aging in stainless steel tanks to develop all its complexity.
