    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Echezeaux Grand Cru "Les Rouges du Bas" Domaine 2022 by Méo-Camuzet

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep, vivid garnet-red hue, intense and sustained, adorned with the typical highlights of great Côte de Nuits wines.

    Nose
Remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet blends scents of candied dark fruits, fresh cherry and crushed strawberry with delicate floral notes of rose. The whole is enhanced by spicy, gamey touches, along with nuances of forest floor and fresh cream.

    Palate
The palate reveals an imposing structure, perfectly balanced by pronounced acidity and lovely freshness. With deep chewiness, this palate is both round and saline, unfolding with great delicacy and offering a long, digestible finish that never falls into heaviness.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This great red wine pairs wonderfully with finely cooked meats, whether roasted or in sauce, such as beef, lamb or duck. It also enhances large game, such as venison or jugged hare, as well as poultry in mushroom sauce. For a bold alternative, it will accompany characterful white fish with firm flesh, or a platter of firm-textured, washed-rind cheeses.

    Service and Storage

To fully enjoy its aromatic palette, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. Decanting is advised while the wine is young. Built to age, this Echezeaux Grand Cru "Les Rouges du Bas" Domaine 2022 can be enjoyed from 2027 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2042.

The Pure and Elegant Expression of a High-Altitude Terroir in Burgundy

    The Estate

Located in the heart of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy, Domaine Méo-Camuzet stands as an essential reference of the Côte de Nuits in France. Founded in the early 20th century by Étienne Camuzet, the estate saw its first vintage bottled under its current name in 1983. Now led by Jean-Nicolas Méo, who benefited from the invaluable guidance of the legendary Henri Jayer, the family estate oversees around 14 hectares of vineyards. Renowned worldwide, it stands out through its pursuit of excellence, producing wines that combine structure, charm and a deep respect for terroir.

    The Vineyard

This wine comes from a specific 0.44-hectare plot named "Les Rouges du Bas", located at the upper boundary of the vast Echezeaux appellation. This elevated position gives the vines a cooler climate, favouring slow berry ripening. Resting on deep Jurassic soils composed of Bajocian marls, red alluvium and gravel, this terroir brings a distinctive minerality and aromatic freshness. The vineyard is managed using sustainable practices close to organic farming, including soil tilling and rigorous yield control through green harvesting.

    The Vintage

2022 was marked by an early season and particularly warm temperatures. These very mild weather conditions allowed for optimal development of the growing cycle, yielding a generous harvest that was perfectly managed despite the climatic challenges.

    Winemaking and Aging

The making of this Echezeaux Grand Cru "Les Rouges du Bas" Domaine 2022 begins with full destemming of the bunches, followed by a few days of cold maceration. Fermentation starts naturally in concrete vats, with precise temperature control to preserve freshness. Extraction is gentle, with light punching down towards the end of the cycle. The wine is then aged for around 17 months in French oak barrels, with a balanced proportion of new wood. Bottling is done by gravity, without fining or filtration, in order to respect the living matter of the wine.

    Grape Variety
