    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Nuits-Saint-Georges Village Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2019

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine shows a beautiful ruby hue, deepening towards a darker intensity.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with expressive notes of red and black fruits, such as cherry, morello cherry and blackcurrant. This fruity core is subtly underscored by touches of spice and hints of forest floor.

    Palate
On the palate, this wine combines a solid frame with a structuring acidity. The tannins, though firm, blend into an elegant texture that highlights the brightness of the fruit, stretching into a persistent, harmonious finish.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs ideally with roasted or grilled meats, such as a rib of beef or a hanger steak. It is also a wonderful match for dishes in brown sauce, delicate game, characterful poultry, and washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses or Langres.

    Serving and cellaring

To fully enjoy this wine, we recommend serving it at a temperature of around 15 to 16°C, opening the bottle two hours before tasting. It can be enjoyed now, but has the potential to evolve and can be cellared until around 2034.

The Elegance and Precision of a Great Burgundy Wine by Méo-Camuzet

    The estate

In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious Climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, expressing all the finesse of the Burgundian terroir.

    The vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, renowned for its predominantly limestone and marl-limestone terroirs. Although this is a négoce activity, the estate team is directly involved in monitoring the plots over several years. Vineyard management draws on organic farming principles, favouring ploughing, considered pruning, meticulous canopy work and strict yield control to promote an authentic expression of the terroir.

    The vintage

The 2019 vintage was marked by episodes of heat and drought, resulting in low yields. However, these climatic conditions produced grapes of excellent phenolic ripeness, giving rise to concentrated, balanced wines with a lovely freshness.

    Vinification and ageing

After entirely hand-harvested grapes and rigorous sorting, the grapes are destemmed. Vinification begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting three to five days, followed by a fermentation at carefully controlled temperatures to favour finesse. Extraction is gentle, with measured punching down and pumping over. Ageing takes place in oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood adjusted to preserve the fruit. Finally, the wine is bottled by gravity, without fining or filtration.
