Mount Gay, the world’s oldest rum distillery

Founded in 1703 in Barbados, Mount Gay claims the title of the world’s oldest continuously operating rum distillery. Located in the parish of St. Lucy on a 280-acre estate, it relies exclusively on Barbadian natural resources: water from the original well, local sugarcane, and airborne yeasts. Since 1989, Mount Gay has been majority-owned by the French group Rémy Cointreau, with the Ward and Hudson families retaining 40% of the shares. This historical authenticity and unique Barbadian terroir distinguish Mount Gay as a true cultural ambassador for the island.

Single Estate Series Release 02, the first vintage of the collection

Single Estate Series Release 02 marks the first vintage of this exceptional collection, crafted exclusively from the 2018 harvest of Mount Gay’s estate sugarcane fields. Unlike the previous release, which blended the 2016 and 2017 harvests, this expression comes 100% from the 234 hectares of sugarcane fields acquired by Mount Gay in 2015. The entire production process for this rum is controlled by the team: distilled in copper pot stills, aged for 6 years in ex-bourbon American white oak casks, non-chill filtered, no added sugar, 55% ABV. This limited edition of 5,418 numbered bottles is the first fully eco-designed Mount Gay expression, reflecting the distillery’s long-term environmental commitment. The 700 ml bottle showcases the island’s unique terroir and climate.
