The charm and refinement of an Italian nebbiolo made as a white wine
The estate
Established in 1897 by Nino Negri in Chiuro, Lombardy, the estate quickly established itself as a benchmark in Valtellina. Owned by Gruppo Italiano Vini since 1986, Nino Negri farms around 38 hectares of vineyards on steep terraced slopes, primarily planted to nebbiolo. A pioneer of Sforzato since 1956, the Italian estate stands out in particular for its NINO NEGRI 3000 project, a unique aging process at 3,000 meters above sea level in alpine rock cellars.
The vineyard
Alpi Retiche is a wine from Lombardy made from vines planted between 350 and 600 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Rhaetian Alps and in Valtellina. With a south-southwest exposure, the parcels sit on shallow, loose sandy-silty soils. The vines are trained using the Guyot and Valtellina arch systems. Harvest runs from mid-September for the lowest-lying vines through to late October for those at higher altitudes.
Winemaking and aging
Alpi Retiche Bianco 2024 is made as a white wine from red grapes. The nebbiolo bunches are gently pressed with immediate separation from the skins to prevent any transfer of color. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 18°C. The wine is then aged on fine lees for several months in steel tanks, without oxygen contact, allowing tertiary aromas to develop.
Grape variety
100% nebbiolo.
