Delicately scented nose, cool fireplace notes, red berry fruit, redcurrant, subtle toasty aromas; silky opening, then it tightens up, with marked acidity, linear and precise, distinctly slimmer with an almost Burgundian expression; long finish. Will be enjoyable early on.

A great second wine pick in 2024. Fragrant nose, really aromatic and perfumed with a deep violet rim. Liquorice, black chocolate, violets. Supple and nicely filling with a lifted, juicy almost sweet acidity on the mid palate - chalky blueberries, cool cherries and lots of liquorice but fresh and so clean. Nicely structured - you can feel the frame here - this isn't a light wine, very sophisticated and well balanced. Totally charming at this point. Concentration and density here, such a refined touch, really stunning. I love this wine! Great fresh mintiness too. 30th vintage - special etched bottle to commemorate. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Ageing 20% new barrels. 3.52pH.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Cask sample. Juicy and succulent with firm but polished tannins. Acidity present. Slightly hard and austere on the finish. (JL)

Mint leaf, cocoa, licorice, and black cherry aromatics pop in the nose. The palate is supple, fruity, and vibrant, with a core of sweet, black cherries, chocolate, and espresso in the finish. This is going to be delicious tasted early in life, and it will age well too. The wine blends 50% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. 12.7 ABV. Drink from 2027-2038. 90-92 Pts

Grilled and smoked aromatics on the opening, this has skilful construction, no question that the austerity is more marked than in recent years of this beautiful wine, but they have teased out cassis bud and rose petals, touch of mint leaf and bitter chocolate. Harvest September 23 to October 7, 54% of overall production. New label and bottle for this vintage to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pagodes. 29hl/h yield.

    The property

Founded in 1811 by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, Château Cos d'Estournel is an emblematic estate of Bordeaux, located in Saint-Estèphe, in the Médoc. The vineyard extends over 91 hectares of gravelly and clay-limestone soils. Michel Reybier, owner since 2000, has modernized the estate with an innovative gravity-fed cellar. The exotic architecture, marked by pagodas, and the pioneering history of direct sales make Cos d'Estournel a unique "super-second", rivaling the first grands crus.

    The vineyard

The vines of Pagodes de Cos flourish on the hill of Saint-Estèphe, near the Gironde estuary. This terroir benefits from a maritime climate offering ideal natural ventilation for the maturation of the grapes. The soils, composed of deep gravels and clay, extend over two slopes and a central plateau, creating optimal conditions for the development of the grape varieties.

    The wine

Pagodes de Cos is the Second Wine of the property. 2024 celebrates the 30th anniversary of this cuvée which is adorned for the occasion with an engraved bottle.

    Blend

Merlot (50%), cabernet sauvignon (43%), cabernet franc (5%) and petit verdot (2%).
