Description
The balance and aromatic expression of an Australian red wine by Penfolds
The estate
Founded in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary, the Penfolds estate has acquired an international reputation over the vintages through its sublime, powerful red wines. Voted New World Winery of the Year in 2013 by the prestigious magazine Wine Enthusiast, the Penfolds estate had already established itself as an emblematic reference at the beginning of the 20th century thanks to the unparalleled determination of Mary Penfold in the production of exceptional Australian wines.
When Max Schubert joined the Penfolds adventure in the 1950s, he instilled the elegance of the great wines of Bordeaux that fascinated him so much into the estate's wines. Success was not long in coming when the Cellar Master signed his famous Grange cuvée which crossed Australian borders to conquer wine lovers around the world. Today, the talented Peter Gago worthily continues the legacy.

Produced only in great vintages, Penfolds' Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon is the perfect expression of the great terroirs of Coonawarra, a region renowned for its "terra rossa" clay soil over limestone. 2018 is the 3rd vintage of this exceptional cuvée, produced for the first time in 1973 then in 2008.
Winemaking and aging
This wine from South Australia benefited from 18 months of aging in fine-grained French oak barrels (50% new).
Blend
