The estate

After searching for the ideal terroir for some 6 years, Sir Peter Michael and Lady Michael acquired 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the western slope of Mount St. Helens in Knights Valley in 1982.

This estate marks the fulfilment of one man's dream. A long-time lover of Bordeaux and Burgundy wines, Sir Peter Michael's ambition from the outset was to turn this estate into a benchmark among fine Californian wines.

Renowned for their elegance and produced in limited quantities, the wines of Peter Michael Winery are among the most beautiful references in the American wine world.

The vineyard

In 2009, Peter Michael's family acquired a vineyard of approximately 10 hectares, located in Oakville. This terroir is unique in that it is rich in iron and red earth. Following this acquisition, major improvements were made to the vineyard.

Peter Michael Winery's "Au Paradis" Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a Californian wine made from vines planted in 1984 and 2007 and resting on red volcanic soils composed of clay, silt and sand.

Winemaking and ageing

Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.

Cabernet Sauvignon (76%)
Merlot (16%)
Petit Verdot (8%).

Tasting

Colour
Brilliant, with an intense ruby hue.

Nose
The nose blends fruity (cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry compote) and floral (violets) fragrances, sustained by notes of graphite, cinnamon and dark chocolate.

Palate
An ample and round attack precedes a structured, powerful mouth with fine tannins. Throughout the wine tasting, the palate exudes aromas of black tea and cocoa powder. The persistent palate seduces with its elegance.

Storage

This Oakville wine can be enjoyed today, but can also be laid down around 2039.
