    Description

The refinement and texture of a Côte-Rôtie wine

    The estate

Passionate about wine, Pierre-Jean Villa began his career by marketing Burgundy wines and then, from 1992, managed the production and marketing of great Burgundy estates such as Mommessin and Clos de Tart. In 2003, he joined the Domaine des Vins de Vienne in the Rhône Valley, a human adventure initiated in 1996 by Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard and François Villard.
In 2009, Pierre-Jean Villa created his estate in his hometown, Chavanay, on the steep terraces of Saint-Joseph and Condrieu with the ambition to produce great wines that authentically and accurately express the richness of these terroirs and the winemaker's ethics.
Produced from a vineyard cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, the wines produced by Pierre-Jean Villa, "one of the most talented winemakers of his generation" according to Bettane & Desseauve, are recognized for their freshness, their indulgence, their finesse and their extreme precision.

    The vineyard

The estate's vineyard covers a total area of 17 hectares spread on both sides of the Rhône Valley in the emblematic appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage as well as the Seyssuel hillsides. The vines of the Pierre-Jean Villa Estate are on average 30 years old.

    The wine

The Fongeant cuvée comes from the eponymous place, located on the granitic terraces of the Côte-Rôtie, covered with gneiss, clay and iron oxide. The vineyard, over 60 years old, is trained in goblet on stakes. The moderate continental climate, dry and hot in summer, with regular rains the rest of the year, promotes optimal ripening of the grapes.

    Vinification and aging

Vinification with 70% whole harvest, sorted on a vibrating table and conveyed to the vat by conveyor belt. Maceration for about twenty days. Aging for 24 months in barrels and 500-liter demi-muids, with racking 6 weeks before bottling.

    Blend

This Fongeant 2022 from Pierre-Jean Villa  is a 100% syrah.
