    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Marsannay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 Régis Bouvier

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red hue, enhanced by delicate garnet nuances.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely complexity of red and black fruits, almost jammy in character, blending bigarreau cherry, blackcurrant, strawberry and blueberry. Subtle floral touches and light woody notes round out this ensemble beautifully.

    Palate
The attack is generous, rich and concentrated. The mid-palate reveals spicy, mineral and earthy nuances, supported by firm yet elegantly polished tannins. The finish, showing lovely persistence, extends with mineral and spicy notes, all balanced by a pleasant freshness.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a rib steak with shallots, but also with pork, veal or game. More surprisingly, it also pairs perfectly with freshwater fish in sauce, Mediterranean-inspired vegetarian dishes or cow's milk cheeses, whether mild in their youth or more assertive like an aged Époisses after a few years of maturation.

    Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment of the Marsannay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, after decanting for 20 to 30 minutes. Approachable from now on, this wine will reveal its full complexity until around 2029.

The elegance and fruity richness of a Marsannay wine

    The estate

Founded in 1981 by Régis Bouvier, who still runs the estate today, this family-owned domaine is a key figure in Burgundy. Starting from a modest two-hectare vineyard, the estate now spans sixteen hectares spread across several prestigious appellations in the Côte de Nuits. A fifth-generation winegrower, Régis Bouvier stands out for his rare mastery of all three wine colours. A strong advocate of sustainable farming, the estate favours controlled yields and hand harvesting to fully express the authenticity of its terroirs.

    The vineyard

This wine comes from two neighbouring plots located within the Marsannay appellation: Clos du Roy and Les Longeroies. The terroir is made up of limestone hillsides, sand and red clay. The vines, with an average age of around fifty years for the Longeroies plot, benefit from an ideal exposure and rigorous soil management, without chemical weed control, allowing for a pure and profound expression of their environment.

    The vintage

The year 2022 began with a rainy winter that helped replenish water reserves, followed by a cool spring that delayed budbreak and protected the vines from frost. May, particularly warm, offered optimal flowering conditions. The summer proved contrasting, with a June marked by storms and a scorching July that led to water stress. Fortunately, welcome rains at the beginning of September allowed the grapes to reach perfect ripeness before the harvest.

    Winemaking and aging

Following an entirely hand-picked harvest and meticulous sorting, the grapes destined for the Marsannay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 undergo a ten-day cold maceration between 8 and 10°C. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks for twelve days, punctuated by twice-daily pumping-over and punching-down. Finally, the wine benefits from several months of aging in oak barrels on fine lees, with rigorous temperature control to preserve the brightness of the fruit and refine the tannins.
