    Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Roc d'Anglade 2012

    Tasting

    Appearance

Bright and light in hue, the wine shows a pale ruby color lifted by violet highlights around the rim.

    Nose

The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate notes of strawberry and tart cherry, accompanied by spicy nuances of white pepper and cinnamon. Floral hints of violet mingle with garrigue aromas and a chalky minerality characteristic of the Langlade terroir.

    Palate

On the palate, the wine reveals remarkable energy, with a juicy texture reminiscent of fresh cherry flesh. The tannins stand out for their exceptional finesse, giving structure without aggressiveness. Bright, zesty acidity brings tension, while flavors of fresh raspberry, black cherry, and blackberry unfold across the palate. Saline notes and crushed graphite add to the aromatic complexity. The very long, persistent finish retains freshness and minerality.

    Food and wine pairings

This Roc d'Anglade 2012 pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats, especially lamb. It also matches well with game dishes featuring mushrooms and woodland flavors. Grilled Camargue bull meat makes for a particularly harmonious regional pairing.

    Serving and aging

The Roc d'Anglade 2012 can be enjoyed now and will continue to develop until around 2032. Decanting for one hour helps aerate the wine and fully reveal its aromatic complexity.

A Languedoc wine marked by elegance and finesse, by Roc d'Anglade

    The estate

Founded in 1999 by Rémy Pédreno in the village of Langlade near Nîmes, Domaine Roc d'Anglade now spans about ten hectares across several parcels. A former IT engineer who turned to viticulture, Rémy Pédreno runs the estate with a philosophy of restraint and a pursuit of finesse rather than power. Certified organic by Ecocert since 2011, the estate has helped revive Langlade’s historic winegrowing reputation—a village whose wines were compared to great Burgundies in the 19th century before the phylloxera crisis. Roc d'Anglade now stands as a benchmark of contemporary Languedoc, producing wines of rare elegance that rival the finest French expressions.

    The vineyard

The vines of Roc d'Anglade 2012 are planted on the Langlade terroir, in the Gard, and benefit from the IGP Pays du Gard. A remarkable feature is that the parcels face north—an unusual choice in the Languedoc—which helps temper sun exposure and preserve the grapes’ natural freshness. The limestone soils lend the wines a distinctive saline minerality. The vines, around twenty-five to thirty years old at harvest time, are farmed under certified organic practices, with manual work from pruning through harvest. The vineyard is planted with 40% Syrah and 60% evenly split between Carignan, Grenache, and Mourvèdre.

    The vintage

The 2012 vintage in the Languedoc was marked by favorable conditions, producing well-balanced wines with fine freshness. The climate made it possible to reach optimal ripeness while preserving the grapes’ natural acidity—a central goal in Rémy Pédreno’s winemaking philosophy.

    Winemaking and aging

Roc d'Anglade 2012 was vinified using a minimalist approach focused on expressing the terroir. The grapes, hand-harvested at an early stage of ripeness to preserve freshness and tension, were fermented as whole clusters for eighteen days with indigenous yeasts in open vats. No new oak was used for aging, which took place in large wooden vessels (foudres and demi-muids) over an extended period on fine lees. This respectful approach develops aromatic complexity without masking the fruit or the terroir’s minerality.
