Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Floresta Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 Santa Rita
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a dark garnet hue, evolving into a deep, intense ruby red.
Nose
The bouquet opens with expressive aromas of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. With aeration, it reveals lovely complexity with notes of cedar, tobacco and graphite, subtly underlined by hints of vanilla and well-integrated oak.
Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate is appealing for its freshness and balance, carried by lovely acidity. The texture is round and harmonious, revealing flavours of blackberry mingled with earthy nuances, black olive and dark chocolate. The tannins are lively and accompany a long, dry and persistent finish.
Food and wine pairing
This Chilean red wine pairs wonderfully with dishes based on roasted or grilled beef, as well as with meats featuring caramelised juices. It will also pair very well with game such as duck or venison, or with dishes featuring umami accents such as mushroom-based dishes or aged cheeses.
Service and storage
With its lovely tannic structure, the Floresta Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 has excellent aging potential, allowing it to evolve favourably over the years.
The elegance and freshness of a red wine from the Maipo Valley
The estate
Founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha, the historic winery Viña Santa Rita has established itself as a key reference in Chile. Now under the direction of Javier Bitar Hirmas and controlled by Grupo Claro, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of more than 4,000 hectares spread across the country's finest wine regions. Deeply attached to its heritage, notably linked to Chilean independence, Santa Rita stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability, biodiversity preservation and a low-intervention winemaking philosophy aimed at expressing the authenticity of each terroir.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Alto Jahuel sub-sector, located in the renowned Maipo Valley. Planted at around 550 metres in altitude on the southern bank of the river, the vines flourish on alluvial terraces composed of highly draining gravel, clay and organic matter. This exceptional terroir enjoys a dry, sunny climate, cooled by meltwater from the Andes and by the puelche, a mountain wind capable of significantly lowering temperatures, thus promoting slow and optimal ripening of the berries.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by particularly demanding climatic conditions. The growing season notably recorded very high temperatures throughout the crucial stages of vegetative growth and grape ripening.
Winemaking and aging
Crafted under the direction of winemaker Teresita Ovalle, the Floresta Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is the result of a contemporary, low-intervention approach. The aim is to faithfully reflect the identity of the terroir. After fermentation and maceration, the wine undergoes careful aging in French oak barrels, allowing the woody aromas to be subtly integrated while preserving the freshness and purity of the fruit.
