Baron de Brane 2022

Raspberry and herbal aromas, calm and deep; very refined palate, perfectly ripe tannins, delicate fruit, showing energy, balance, and very good length. A wine of great finesse that will be enjoyable early.

Supple and lively, there’s a nice energy to this with plump strawberry and raspberry fruit and a clean, almost salty tang at mid-palate. Tannins are well integrated, they’re up front and provide the structure, yet have a lovely, comforting texture. Juicy, clean, easy, well made, a lovely second wine with freshness, cool blue fruit and stony touches. Just a lighter version of everything… tannins, fruit, acidity. Harvest 7–19 September. Yield of 31.5 hl/ha. pH 3.57. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

The 2022 Baron de Brane is a gorgeous second wine. Merlot drives the blend, and that comes through in the wine's plush contours and forward, succulent fruit. Black cherry, plum, licorice and menthol all meld together in an effortless wine that is all charm. This is beautifully done.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, ochre rim. Delicate notes of cassis and mint, a hint of liquorice, black cherries, dark nougat, attractive bouquet. Juicy, elegant, good complexity, ripe cherries, good freshness, round tannins, some fruit on the finish, shows very good length, certain ageing potential, a multi-faceted food wine.

Clear fig and dried fruit notes, but this also has extremely clear freshness and lift, opening up to baked earth, pomegranate, tar and dark chocolate. Gourmet, well handled. 38% of production. 30th vintage for Henri Lurton at Brane, 31hl/ha yield, harvest from September 7 to October 10 (last day was the Carmanère). This year they only used press wine from Cabernet Sauvignon (something that has only been true once before), pH 3.57.

With good intensity, the bouquet of Baron de Brane reveals notes of ripe, even candied, black berries along with praline aromas. On the palate, the wine is dense, smooth, and supported by fleshy, generous tannins that provide a solid backbone. The wine is inviting, indulgent, and ready to be enjoyed while offering good potential.

Deep, intense colour. A highly aromatic nose that, for once, is subtle. Supple on the attack, flavoursome through the mid-palate, with a melt-in-the-mouth texture; the wine builds gently before shining with aromatic brilliance on the finish. Average length. A delicious whole.

Supple, soft, and creamy, the floral-edged wine is loaded with elegant, polished, sweet, ripe, delicious fruits that flow across your palate with ease. This baby Brane is perfect to enjoy on release while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The wine blends 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2025-2038.

Aromas of sweet cherries, blackberries, pencil shavings and barnyard introduce the 2022 Baron de Brane, a medium-bodied, sweet and somewhat carnal red that will appeal to readers with old-fashioned tastes.
