The Authentic and Mineral Expression of a Santenay Terroir
The Estate
Established in 2004 following the division of the historic family estate, the Bruno Colin estate covers 8.75 hectares in the heart of Burgundy. Now run by Bruno Colin, the property is divided into around thirty plots spread across five villages of the Côte de Beaune. The winegrower cultivates his vines according to the principles of sustainable farming. A committed advocate of a low-intervention approach, he strives to produce wines that faithfully reflect the purity and diversity of each terroir.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from a small 0.71-hectare plot within the Santenay appellation, in the south of the Côte de Beaune. Facing east and south, the vines enjoy ideal sun exposure. With an average age of 52 to 60 years, they thrive on shallow, light soils composed in equal parts of clay and brown limestone. This distinctive terroir allows the old vines to draw deep roots, resulting in a wonderful aromatic concentration.
The Vintage
2023 ranks among the hottest years in the region's recent history. After a mild spring, the summer proved particularly hot and dry. An intense heatwave just before harvest accelerated the ripening of the berries, leading to a rapid rise in sugar levels and a drop in acidity. Despite an abundant crop, careful yield management resulted in fruit of exceptional quality, combining richness with freshness.
Winemaking and Aging
After careful manual sorting in the vineyard and on a vibrating sorting table, the grapes for the Santenay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 are largely destemmed before undergoing a few days of cold maceration. Alcoholic fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts, accompanied by gentle pumping-over under strict temperature control. The wine is then aged for around twelve months in 350-litre oak barrels (a quarter of which are new), before being blended and refined in stainless steel tanks for four to six months prior to bottling at the estate.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
