Description
The vibrancy and complexity of a finely sparkling Italian white wine
The estate
In the 1960s, Bruno and Marcello Ceretto took over the family estate founded in 1930 by their father, Riccardo, in Alba, in Piedmont. Inspired by a stay in Burgundy, the two brothers sought to accelerate the estate’s growth and craft “crus” within this exceptional Italian terroir.
Introducing a genuine shift in a region where the notion of cru was then absent, Bruno and Marcello Ceretto undertook a rigorous selection of the best vineyards for great Italian reds in Barolo and Barbaresco, in order to produce outstanding Langhe wines.
Respect for traditions, attachment to the terroir, and openness to innovation guide the philosophy of this family-run estate. Between 1969 and 1982, four wineries were established and production expanded to Moscato as well as a white wine. Since the 1990s, the next generation, the children of Bruno and Marcello, has joined the estate, safeguarding the legacy of this 160-hectare property, spread across 4 wineries and producing 17 different wines.
The wine
The I Vignaioli di S. Stefano cuvée is a lightly sparkling Moscato d'Asti wine with a unique story. In 1976, the Ceretto and Scavino families, emblematic figures of Piedmontese viticulture, combined their expertise to found the I Vignaioli di Santo Stefano winery. Their shared ambition was to restore full prestige to Moscato Bianco, a grape variety with remarkable potential but long undervalued due to overly intensive cultivation.
I Vignaioli di Santo Stefano cultivates 30 hectares of vines located in the communes of Santo Stefano Belbo, Canelli, and Calosso. Vinification and aging are carried out at Domaine San Maurizio, in the municipality of Santo Stefano Belbo.
To convey the modern and innovative character of this cuvée, the bottle design was entrusted to Italian designer Giacomo Bersanetti.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. A low-intervention approach to preserve the aromatic purity of this Piedmont wine.
