An exceptional vintage Champagne imbued with refinement and aromatic expression
The estate
Since 1843, the Champagne Krug House has honored the dream of its founder, Joseph Krug, by creating each year a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne, regardless of annual climatic variations.
The House considers that each Krug Vintage expresses the unique character of a particular year. A Krug Vintage brings together the most expressive wines of the same year, enhanced by more than ten years of aging in the cellar. Each Krug Vintage is different: it is the Music of the Year, transposed into the Krug universe.
The vineyard
With more than 250 different plots, including the prestigious Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay, the Krug House holds an exceptional heritage of vines in Champagne.
The wine
The blending of a new Krug vintage aims to tell the story of the year. A mix of delicacy, balance and a myriad of citrus notes, this Champagne has been nicknamed by the House “luminous freshness,” evoking summer mornings.
Krug 2004 is the final opus of the House’s second trilogy (2002, 2003 and 2004), following that of 1988, 1989 and 1990.
The vintage
After a very cold start to the season, the fine weather that accompanied the harvest from mid-September to early October made 2004 a generous year, after the extremes of 2003 and its limited yields. Nature, in its exuberance, offered a broad palette of choices and grapes of great quality.
Winemaking and aging
From the most expressive wines of the same year, this cuvée benefits from over ten years of aging in the cellar.
Blend
This 2004 vintage Champagne is a blend of Chardonnay (39%), Pinot Noir (37%) and Pinot Meunier (24%).
