Description

A complex and creamy vintage champagne

The estate

Since 1843, the Champagne Krug House has honored the dream of its founder, Joseph Krug, by creating each year a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne, regardless of annual weather variations.

The House believes that each Krug Vintage expresses the unique character of a particular year. A Krug Vintage brings together the most expressive wines of the same year, enhanced by over ten years of aging in the cellar. Each Krug Vintage is different: it is the Music of the Year, transposed into the Krug universe.

The vineyard

With more than 250 different plots, including the prestigious Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay, the House of Krug holds an exceptional vineyard heritage in Champagne.

The vintage

In 2006, a heat wave swept across Champagne, with extreme temperatures and 23 days above 30°C. The weather was capricious, alternating very dry periods and heavy rains (the equivalent of two months of precipitation in just two weeks, in August). Fortunately, the end of the season was sunny. At harvest, the grape varieties showed a level of ripeness similar to 2002 and 1989, two generous years. 2006 yielded elegant, balanced Pinot Meunier with notes of pear and apple, particularly aromatic Chardonnay as well as Pinot Noir from the Vallée de la Marne showing promising structure and strong potential.

Winemaking and aging

This 2006 vintage champagne benefits from 12 years of aging in underground cellars, imparting balance and finesse to this exceptional cuvée.

Characteristics and tasting advice for Krug 2006

Tasting

Appearance
Bright, the color displays a beautiful golden hue.

Nose
The nose exudes very expressive aromas of yellow fruits, dried fruits, toasted almonds, hazelnut, maple syrup, meringue, and mandarin liqueur.

Palate
The House of Krug nicknamed this 2006 Vintage “Capricious Indulgence,” which enchants with its roundness, generosity, and elegance. Nougat, frangipane, viennoiserie, tarte Tatin, and citrus intertwine with freshness and harmony, leading to a finish marked by delicious notes of pink grapefruit peel.
