A fruity and supple red wine from Burgundy, a tribute to the founder of Maison Champy
The estate
Founded in 1720 by the cooper Edme Champy, Maison Champy is the oldest wine merchant in Burgundy. Located in the heart of Beaune, it manages about 21 hectares of vineyards, farmed organically and HVE certified, mainly in the prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune. Owned by the AdVini group since 2016, Champy combines centuries-old tradition with innovation and remains the last wine production site in the city center of Beaune.
The vineyard
This red wine comes from a careful blend of 200 barrels. Fifty barrels come from the house's vineyards in Volnay and Ladoix, complemented by plots in the Côte Chalonnaise. The vines thrive on clay-limestone soils, a characteristic terroir of the Burgundy region.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand to preserve the integrity of the grapes. The Bourgogne Pinot Noir "Cuvée Edme" 2023 is vinified in the traditional way, with natural yeasts allowing for spontaneous fermentation. Aging takes place over a period of 12 months, divided between 25% in oak barrels and 75% in stainless steel tanks, thereby preserving the freshness of the fruit while imparting subtle complexity.
