Tasting
Color
The color reveals a white-gold hue with golden highlights.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of citrus fruit, white peach and white pepper.
Palate
The attack is lively and fresh. The palate reveals a dominance of citrus fruit, supported by a rich body and a pronounced minerality typical of the north of the Mâconnais. The finish is balanced and refreshing.
Food and wine pairings
This Viré-Clessé 2022 is a perfect match as an aperitif. It also pairs elegantly with delicate charcuterie such as parsley ham or poultry terrines, warm appetizers such as snails or frog legs in brown butter, fish dishes, white meat in a creamy sauce, as well as goat cheese.
Serving and cellaring
The Viré-Clessé 2022 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. This wine can be cellared until around 2032 and will continue to develop.
A Viré-Clessé from the Mâconnais combining freshness and minerality
The estate
Founded in Beaune in 1720 by the cooper Edme Champy, the house Champy is the oldest still-active Burgundy wine merchant. Since 2016, it has belonged to the AdVini group and farms 21 hectares of vineyards between Volnay and Corton-Charlemagne in the Côte de Beaune. The estate is 50% organic and 50% certified Haute Valeur Environnementale. As the last production site within the walls of Beaune, the house stands out for its remarkable historical heritage and its historic collaboration with Louis Pasteur on the pasteurization of wines.
The vineyard
This wine from Viré-Clessé comes from vineyards in the namesake villages in the north of the Mâconnais. The vines grow on a single east-facing slope and are rooted in limestone soils.
The vintage
After a winter that was milder and drier than average, budbreak took place in early April. Weather conditions in the first half of September gave the vintage generosity and quality.
Winemaking and aging
The Viré-Clessé 2022 is vinified in the traditional way with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at low temperature. Full malolactic fermentation.
Grape variety
This Burgundy wine is 100% Chardonnay.
