Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022 from Champy

Tasting

Color
The color shows a pale golden yellow, highlighted by bright golden reflections.

Nose
The bouquet reveals a fine concentration of very ripe white-fleshed fruit, accompanied by notes of vanilla. The nose is complemented by aromas of fresh citrus, oriental spices reminiscent of cinnamon and coriander, as well as delicate floral scents of honeysuckle.

Palate
The attack on the palate is round and full-bodied, offering a generous texture. The tasting concludes with a fresh, mineral finish of remarkable length and persistence.

Food and wine pairing
This white Grand Cru pairs harmoniously with scallop carpaccio with vanilla, langoustine tempura with orange butter, or a spiced monkfish tajine. It also pairs beautifully with roasted noble fish such as sea bass, turbot, or John Dory. For cheese, Brillat-Savarin, Chaource, or Vacherin are recommended.

Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022, it is best served at a temperature between 12 and 13°C. Drink through around 2032.

A Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru combining generosity and minerality

The estate
Founded in 1720, the Champy house is the oldest merchant house in Burgundy. Based in the heart of Beaune, it farms over 22 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, stretching from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. Since being acquired by the AdVini group in 2016, the house has continued its development while preserving its historic heritage.

The vineyard
This Corton-Charlemagne comes from a vineyard located at an altitude between 220 and 360 meters on clay-limestone soils typical of this Grand Cru appellation.

The vintage
2022 began with a winter that was milder and drier than average. Weather conditions in the first half of September played a decisive role, giving the harvested grapes both generosity and quality.

Winemaking and aging
The harvest for this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022 is carried out by hand. Winemaking follows a traditional approach using natural yeasts. Fermentation takes place directly in barrels. Aging is carried out over a period of 12 months in barrels, 30% of which are new oak.

Grape variety
This Burgundy wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay.
