A refined Gevrey-Chambertin from old Burgundy vines
The Estate
Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, Champy is the oldest merchant house in Burgundy. Located in the heart of Beaune in historic, listed buildings, it farms around 21 hectares in renowned appellations such as Pommard, Beaune, Clos de Vougeot and Morey-Saint-Denis. Since being acquired by the AdVini group in 2016, the house has combined its role as winegrower and winemaker with that of merchant and élevage specialist.
The Vineyard
This Gevrey-Chambertin comes from old vines planted in 1959 in the Les Corvées vineyard site. The old vines thrive on a clay-limestone soil typical of the appellation.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage began with late budbreak at the end of March for Chardonnay and early April for Pinot Noir. Flowering took place around Pentecost, with full bloom in early June. Veraison started at the end of July. Ripening progressed steadily through the summer, before a cooldown at the end of August slowed maturity while preserving acidity. Disease pressure was overall well managed. The generous crop and favorable weather conditions in early September provided strong quality potential.
Winemaking and Aging
The vinification of this Gevrey-Chambertin "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 follows a traditional approach. Aging is carried out in oak barrels, 25% of which are new.
Grape Variety
This Burgundy wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
