The estate
Founded in 1720 by the cooper Edme Champy from Beaune, the House of Champy is the oldest wine merchant in Burgundy. Owned by the AdVini group since 2016 and under the oenological direction of Dimitri Bazas, it farms 21 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. With a still-active production site within the city walls of Beaune, the 15th-century cellars and listed buildings bear witness to an exceptional heritage, recognized in 2021 with the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" label. Half of the vineyards are organic certified, while the other half is certified "Haute Valeur Environnementale" (high environmental value).
The vineyard
This Meursault comes from parcels in the "Crotots" lieu-dit, set on gentle slopes between 230 and 360 meters in altitude and benefiting from an east to south exposure. The soils, rich in white marl over a limestone subsoil, offer ideal conditions for Chardonnay.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage proved atypical in Burgundywith above-average rainfall. Following early budbreak due to a mild winter, a cool spell at the end of March slowed growth. A warm start to April accelerated vegetative development and increased frost risk. Flowering began in early June, but weather conditions caused partial shatter, reducing yields. Summer alternated between sunny periods and stormy rainfalls. Harvest began on September 10 in the early-ripening Pinot Noir sites of Beaune, Pommard, and Volnay. A wonderful week from September 16, marked by sunshine and a north wind, made it possible to complete picking on September 25. Despite low volumes, the wines showed promising quality after fermentation.
Winemaking and aging
The vinification of this Meursault Village 2024 follows a traditional approach using indigenous yeasts. The grapes are carefully vinified before being aged for 10 months in used barrels, preserving the purity of the fruit while adding subtle complexity.
