Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Valozières" 2023 Chandon de Briailles
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful red hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great complexity, opening with notes of black cherry and blackberry. It then develops nuances of undergrowth and autumn leaves, rounded out by subtle spicy touches of cocoa and a lovely minerality.
Palate
The attack is supple, revealing a beautiful concentration of red fruit. The structure is well balanced, carried by a precise freshness and fine tannins that unfold gradually. The finish offers remarkable length, underscored by mineral notes reminiscent of the limestone terroir.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with dark poultry such as duck breast with a red wine reduction, as well as with game meats such as roasted pigeon, venison or wild boar. It also goes perfectly with beef dishes, such as traditional beef bourguignon or herb-crusted veal cutlets, and with well-aged, characterful cheeses with mineral notes such as Époisses, Munster or Maroilles.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Valozières" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 14 and 17°C. With its fine structure, this wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared for enjoyment until around 2036.
The Authentic Expression of a Great Burgundy Terroir by Domaine Chandon de Briailles
The Estate
Founded in 1834, Chandon de Briailles is a key reference of the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy, France. Spanning approximately 14 hectares, this historic estate now belongs to Count and Countess Aymard-Claude de Nicolay. Since 2001, day-to-day management has been handled by their children, François and Claude de Nicolay. A pioneer in environmental stewardship, the estate stands out for its fully certified biodynamic viticulture and a minimal-intervention approach, producing authentic wines that faithfully express the richness of their terroirs.
The Vineyard
The Les Valozières climat is located on the lower slopes of the Aloxe-Corton appellation, benefiting from an ideal southeast exposure. The vines, planted at an altitude of between 200 and 300 meters, thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in stones, providing excellent drainage. The vineyard is entirely cultivated according to biodynamic principles, with horse-drawn soil tilling and very limited yields to ensure optimal grape quality.
The Vintage
The year 2023 brought mild weather conditions that allowed for optimal and relatively early physiological ripening of the berries. Harvesting was thus able to begin as early as August 17th, taking place exclusively in the morning to preserve the fruit's freshness against the summer heat.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes intended for this Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Valozières" 2023 are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted. Fermentation begins spontaneously in open vats, with a proportion of 60% whole clusters and 40% destemmed grapes. Daily pumping-over is followed by manual punching-down. The wine is then aged for 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with a very limited use of new wood to preserve the expression of the terroir. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
Pinot Noir.
