Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Roussanne Vieilles Vignes 2025 from Château de Beaucastel
Tasting
Nose
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with yellow and exotic fruit aromas, accompanied by notes of honey, flowers and spice.
Palate
On the palate, this wine combines an unctuous richness with a saline freshness. A slight bitterness on the finish structures the whole and gives definition to its opulence.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine suits gastronomic cuisine. It pairs well with fine seafood such as scallops, langoustines or lobster, especially with a creamy or buttery sauce. It also works well with poultry and white meats prepared with cream, mushrooms or truffle.
A White Châteauneuf-du-Pape Made from Roussanne, Sourced from the Old Vines of Château de Beaucastel
The Estate
Located in Courthézon, in the north-east of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in the Rhône Valley, Château de Beaucastel became a wine estate in 1909, when Pierre Tramier acquired it, before his son-in-law Pierre Perrin expanded the vineyard. It now belongs to the Perrin family, with five generations having followed one another. Its 100 hectares of vines in a single block, around three quarters of which are in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, are farmed organically. All thirteen grape varieties of the appellation are grown here.
The Vineyard
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape comes from a dedicated plot in the north of the appellation. The soils combine Miocene marine molasse with a layer of rounded pebbles of Alpine origin. These pebbles store the heat of the day and release it at night. The terroir is highly exposed to the mistral, which helps keep the vines healthy. The plot brings together very old vines and more recent plantings. Organic farming goes hand in hand with hand harvesting and deliberately limited yields.
Vinification and Ageing
For the Roussanne Vieilles Vignes 2025, the grapes are harvested by hand, with careful sorting of the bunches. They are picked slightly overripe in order to achieve a concentrated aromatic expression. Pressing is gentle, in a pneumatic press, and followed by must settling. Fermentation takes place partly in wood and partly in tank. The cuvée is now vinified in barrels, which limit the oak influence and allow gentle micro-oxygenation.
Grape Variety
This white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is 100% Roussanne.
