Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Mercurey Village "Clos de la Maladière" 2022 Château de Chamirey

Tasting

Colour
This wine reveals a brilliant garnet-red hue, enhanced by delicate violet highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with subtle scents of small dark berries such as blueberry and blackcurrant. On aeration, it reveals the full typicity of its terroir through notes of undergrowth and mushrooms, harmoniously enhanced by spicy touches of nutmeg and pepper.

Palate
From the very first sip, which is notably direct, the palate offers a lovely fruity expression supported by remarkably delicate, perfectly integrated tannins. The whole shines with elegance, stretching towards a finish of great finesse, at once tangy and slightly saline.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with regional dishes such as a Burgundian fondue, but also shines alongside fine cuts of beef, roasted poultry or poultry in mushroom sauce. When it comes to cheese, a Tomme de Savoie or an Époisses will make an ideal match. More surprisingly, this red wine will also beautifully complement a dessert such as a dark chocolate cake.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate the Mercurey Village "Clos de la Maladière" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 13 and 14°C, taking care to open it approximately 30 to 45 minutes before tasting. This wine can be enjoyed now, but also has fine ageing potential, allowing it to be kept in the cellar until around 2032.

The Authentic Expression of a Mercurey Terroir

The Estate

Founded as a modern wine estate in 1934 by the Marquis de Jouennes, Château de Chamirey is an emblematic name in Burgundy. This date marks the forward-thinking decision to bottle the wines directly at the estate. Today, Amaury and Aurore Devillard, representing the fifth generation, head the estate, supported by their father Bertrand. With a vineyard spanning 37 hectares, the estate stands out for its commitment to quality and its determination to faithfully express the richness of its terroirs.

The Vineyard

Located in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, the vineyard of the Mercurey appellation benefits from a moderate climate. The "Clos de la Maladière" plot covers 1.36 hectares and rests on clay-limestone soil scattered with small pebbles. Facing south to north on a gentle slope, the vines, aged between 43 and 63 years, are planted at a high density of 10,000 vines per hectare. The estate favours sustainable farming practices, limiting inputs to preserve the natural balance and biodiversity.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for the Mercurey Village "Clos de la Maladière" 2022 are harvested by hand, followed by a thorough double sorting and full destemming. After a few days of cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation begins naturally through indigenous yeasts. Extraction is adjusted on a daily basis. The wine is then aged in oak barrels (10 to 20% new oak) for 10 to 12 months, before finishing its maturation in stainless steel tanks for 2 to 3 months.
